Use a subscription in the product; use a model API in apps and agents
They may use the same model brand, but they differ in account ownership, what you receive, billing, and how you verify usage.
Choose based on what you need to do
A GPT, Claude, or Gemini web plan is not the same product as its developer API.
An AI subscription delivers plan or account access
It is normally used on the official website or app. The order must state whether it activates your account or delivers a new one, plus the term and support scope.
- Before ordering, check the current price, stock, and delivery details on the product page.
- A web subscription does not automatically include API credits.
A model API provides programmatic access and usage records
An application sends requests using a base URL, API key, model ID, and supported API. Charges are based on the selected model, service tier, and token or request usage.
- Before calling the API, copy the model ID and confirm the current rate on Models and pricing.
- After the request, check the model, tokens, status, and cost in Usage.
A team can use both
People can use subscriptions for daily work while applications use APIs for automation and integrations. Keep accounts, keys, costs, and support paths separate.
